we have been doing a bit of spring cleaning around here and in taking apart my wardrobe i've realized that there are articles of clothing hanging in there that haven't seen the light of day for almost 2 1/2 years. generally my rule of thumb is if i haven't worn anything in a year, then it's time to pass it on to someone else because why leave something there collecting dust, but this time i couldn't bring myself to toss out hundreds of "dress-up" or "going out" dresses just because i haven't really had the opportunity to wear them as much as i used to. of course, dustin and i get a little fancy every couple weekends or so, but i've got a stash of dresses from a time when a night on the town was an at least twice a week occurrence.
so i made a decision...i am going to start wearing these pretty pieces even if i have no real place to wear them to. i haven't worn this skirt (pictured above) in over 3 years, but threw it on for a casual hike over the weekend and quickly realized that there's no real reason that i shouldn't throw on something pretty when i feel like it (although i got a few odd looks on the path when others who were in hiking boots with backpacks on).
