It's been a while since I've been to this space, but with this new chapter in our lives closing as a family of three, I'm finding myself wanting to document more of our lives together.  There is something about putting words with photographs that helps to engrave that memory deeper into your mind or just simply spark a memory that you thought was completely forgotten.  Looking back at the beginning of this blog, reading my entries and looking through the photographs of Holden as an infant, I find myself back in that place, reliving all of Holden's idiosyncrasies, my thoughts as a new mother, and our life back then.  And I find myself missing that - missing putting words down on "paper" to forever etch into memory these times in our lives. And while I do keep a private journal for Holden, there is something about adding pictures to words that makes everything that much more real and tangible. So I'm back...to sharing our adventures as a family of three, soon-to-be-four!!!, and everything that entails.

We didn't give Holden any sugar for a long time (we would say that candy was yucky and he just agreed with us), but now that he's a little older we allow him to indulge in something sweet every once and a while.  Mr. B has a slight addiction to chocolate (I literally can not keep ice cream in the house for longer than a day) and the first time Holden ever had chocolate ice cream, we knew by his reaction that the chocolate-loving gene had been passed down to him :)

I don't have the biggest sweet tooth, but there are times that I just can't help treating us to an afternoon at an ice cream parlor or cupcake shop, especially after the little man fell and cracked his forehead open (you can still see the glue on his forehead in these pictures). San Francisco is littered with quaint cupcake shops and bakeries, but I was hard pressed to find any near our new house until Holden and I stumbled upon Heavenly Cupcake in downtown San Diego.  With rows and rows of decadent cupcakes in every flavor imaginable, this was the perfect spot to introduce Holden to the world of cupcakes, and if you can't tell by the pictures, he was pretty happy with the experience.  I bought one to share between the two of us and somehow I barely got a taste.

Only accessible when the tide is low enough for us to sneak around a towering rock wall that on most occasions meets the crashing waves to ward off visitors, this has quickly become our favorite spot to explore.  When the tide is at it's lowest point, the large boulders that rest on the sand are brimming with sea life living in their nooks and crannies and we spend hours discovering the animals that get trapped on the shore as they wait for the tide to rise again.

Recently, I've been struggling with finding a balance between running the shop and giving enough of myself to my little family.  It seems it's always difficult to to separate my time between the two and I'm starting to think that it's time to start dedicating my time to each separately so that they each can have 100% of my undivided attention.  I'm definitely learning as I go, and I'm not sure there is any right answer or if there ever will be a perfect balance, but for now I just feel incredibly grateful that I can do something I love and still spend my day with my favorite little person on the planet.

I'd love to hear from you work at home mothers and how you find balance in your daily schedules!

In 2011, I became a mother to a beautiful baby boy and my style was forever changed.

After a few sleep deprived weeks (or perhaps a month or two) of living in loungewear, my skirts and dresses hanging untouched in the corner of my closet, my husband and I decided it was time for a date night and it was surprising how wonderful it felt to dress up.

Since the majority of my days were spent at playdates and playgrounds, I started dressing up for the simplest of errands or everyday occurrences just because it made me feel good.

After speaking with my good friend Marissa and finding out that she was also not saving her favorite dresses for only special occasions, we decided to start a style movement and social media campaign called Elegant Errands to inspire other women to take an everyday, ordinary opportunity and dress it up. Today we are teaming up with Joie to show you don't always need an excuse to dress up.

Marissa and I believe that there is no reason not to opt for a favorite dress, regardless of what you have planned for the day. Whether it is wearing a tulle skirt to the grocery store or a fancy dress to the post office, we believe that the simple act of throwing on an elegant piece of clothing can completely change the way you feel about herself which is why we think you don't need a "reason" to dress up (but if you need an excuse, let Elegant Errands be yours.)

We hope that you will join us on our #eleganterrands movement by switching out your everyday wear for something a little dressier, something that you feel good in, and share using the hashtag #eleganterrands. We can't wait to see all of your #eleganterrands!

CITY LIFE

While there are many, many things that I love about living in San Diego by the beach, there is also a large part of me that desperately misses San Francisco and the Bay Area. I'm not sure if it's just the winter hours and the fact that the sun sets before Mr. B arrives home from work which limits our ability to explore like we used to, but I miss the ability to be in the heart of one of the most glamorous cities in the country at one moment and in less than an hour be in the middle of beautiful green rolling hills and open fields.  The Bay Area has so many unique places to discover that it makes it hard to compete.  So after a month of only beach adventures, we went downtown San Diego to walk around the neighborhood that Mr. B and I lived in right after we graduated college and while it was a lot quieter (and a lot less windy) than the city we are used to, it was nice to be back in a city.

In other news, Holden has started dressing himself and being very particular about what he wears.  When it's not zip-up footie pajamas, it's leggings (and sometimes a bow tie), and I kind of love watching people's reactions to his outfit choices.  While most days, I help pick out his clothes, I kind of love the days that he insists on wearing his shark one-piece pajamas and boots out of the house for our daily activities.

 Outfit Details ::

On Him :: h&m cap (old) // Papoose Sweater // Zara Button-Up // Zara Pants // Alpaca wool socks // Zara boots

Every weekend, when Mr. B arrives home from work, we celebrate by watching the sunset together and we look forward to this time together every single week. Holden and I walk the dog down to the cliffs to watch the sun set over the ocean on almost a daily basis, but there is something so much more special having Mr. B there with us.

We don't have very many traditions as a family quite yet and with the holidays quickly approaching, I've decided that I would like to start a few for our little family of three, something small and special that we can look forward to year after year. Although Mr.B and I carry on the traditions of our parents, we haven't yet created a holiday tradition unique to our family and it's on my list of goals before the end of 2013.

I'm looking for ideas - so if you have any favorite holiday traditions, feel free to share!
